Departing from your hotel we will travel north west past Linlithgow, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots and the iconic Kelpies before we arrive at our first stop of the day Stirling Castle.
Stirling Castle was a favourite with the Stuart kings and queens. Take time to explore the magnificent renaissance palace of James V, the Great Hall of James IV or relax in the garden where Mary Queen of Scots played as a child. Hear about the turbulent history of the Castle, or simply take in the breathtaking views of the Wallace Monument against the backdrop of the Ochil Hills.
Leaving Stirling behind, we will continue passing through Doune once famous for manufacturing duelling pistols and home to Doune Castle the setting for Monty Python’s ‘Holy Grail’ and more recently in the popular TV series ‘Outlander’. We will pass through the Victorian town of Callendar and if we are lucky we may spot some Highland Cows. Our drive will continue along Loch Vennachar where we will stop for lunch before arriving at Loch Katrine.
Loch Katrine is an area of outstanding beauty situated within the Trossachs national park. You have the option to take a scenic boat cruise aboard the steamship SS Sir Walter Scott and admire the views of Ben A ’an and Ben Venue.
Travelling over the mountainous Dukes Pass we will enjoy a brief stop in the Victorian town of Aberfoyle before our final stop of the day Glengoyne Distillery.
Glengoyne Distillery has been distilling whisky for over 200 years. Your tour will start with a welcoming glass of 12 year old single malt before being shown round the distillery where you will discover the art of making fine whisky.
It’s time to leave the countryside and drive back to Edinburgh – so, sit back, relax and reflect on your day.
